Allegro Winery to Acquire Naylor Wine Cellars

Allegro Winery has entered into an agreement with Naylor Wine Cellars to acquire the Stewartstown winery and vineyard.

With the passing of its founder, Dick Naylor, on December 10, 2018, the Naylor family approached Carl Helrich, owner and winemaker at Allegro, about acquiring the business and assets.

“I was honored when Naylor approached me to talk about the possibility of purchasing the winery and vineyard,” said Helrich. “Naylor Wine Cellars has a storied history in our industry and in our community, and we are excited beyond words to be able to write the next chapter.”

Due to the continued growth in sales throughout the Commonwealth, Helrich had been searching for expanded production space.

“When I came to Allegro in 2001, I was stepping into the shoes of John Crouch, who at the time had made some of the most remarkable wines on the East coast,” Helrich stated.  “Now that Allegro is poised to expand, I am reminded of how we came to this point.  Dick Naylor was a legend in our industry, and these are huge shoes to fill.  But no one knows this better than I: we are only here because we stand on the shoulders of giants.”

Allegro will operate a winery, vineyard, tasting room and event/wedding venue at the former Naylor location. The tasting room in Stewartstown will feature Allegro’s complete wine list of more than 2 dozen wine varieties. The winery plans on hosting a variety of events including music, trivia, sip-n-create events, and more. The Stewartstown site will also become the venue for Allegro Wine Club member mixers and quarterly pick up beginning as soon as August of this year. More information is available at www.allegrowines.com.

“We can't wait to continue on the strong family tradition that Naylor Wine Cellars has been about for the past forty years,” Helrich added.  “We'll be bringing our own community to Stewartstown, but we'll be carrying on the Naylor family tradition with good wine, vines, music, and hospitality.”

Allegro Winery’s original Brogue location will continue to be open for wine tasting and sales.  The Stewartstown location will be referred to as Allegro Wine Cellars and will have a production facility alongside the tasting room and events calendar.

Naylor wines will be available until current inventory is sold out at its Queensgate tasting room in York, and at the Markets at Shrewsbury.

More details about the opening of Allegro Wine Cellars will be announced here as available.
